Things That Sound Like…

I keep seeing more and more videos of objects that sound like other things. Whether this is a trend, I do not know. It’s fantastic for sure. For instance, a trash can that sounds like John Coltrane:

A car that plays light jazz:

Da Veranda – Out Of Your Roof / Tweet

Tweet - By Da Veranda

Hi! We’ve released an album with playful beats. This is an experiment in which we created 11 songs with vocals without lyrics.

Come and enjoy this uncommon music on our veranda: crazy but lekker!* Groovy mellow beats accompanied by a velvet voice singing catchy melodies without lyrics. De-stress from the world that’s full of words and talk, because as Jobim said in his one note samba “there’s so many people that just talk and talk and talk and just say nothing, or nearly nothing” and slip into a universal global world without lyrics where everybody can understand everybody, or to quote Stevie Wonder “music is a world within itself with a language we all understand.”

The album consists of eleven songs in various styles and combinations, from tango to mambo, where occasional boogaloo meets balkan, while dance is mixed with reggae, a Brazilian groove is merged with Colombian cumbia and a smooth jazzy atmosphere dissolves into gospel. All songs are accompanied by deliciously contagious and harmonized vocals bringing a positive vibe to mankind! (age: from 0 – 100 +).

Here’s the video clip for ‘Tweet’.

And here you can find the other songs.

Tug of Gore – iPad Party Game For 4 Players

Tug of Gore Promo

Today is the release date of Tug of Gore! In this hilarious tug-of-war-style party game up to 4 players simultaneously pull and stretch Gore, a slimy creature who crash landed on the wrong hungry-monster planet, towards the mouths of their DuDu-monsters. The first player to successfully feed their DuDu wins! Tapping a DuDu temporarily increases their tugging power. But beware – others can easily use this power too!

A standout feature of the game is that players are only allowed to touch the iPad with just one hand. The other hand may be used in whatever way the players see fit. They are given extra inspiration at the start of each new round by a small personal message such as “tug another player“ and “steal the iPad”.

Sound Inspiration – Sound Levitation and Solid Water Videos

Two great videos of sound inspiration I’ve been wanting to post for a long time…

Acoustic Levitation
Yes, it’s possible to use magnetism to make frogs float. Everyone knows that. But did you know you can use sound to make liquids and solid objects float in the air by exposure to intense sound waves?

Solid Water
Now this one is stunning…the vibration in the water by a sine tone of 24 Hz and the video framerate of 24 fps make the water stand still.

More to be added if there’s more to be added.

Tug of Gore

This weekend, I participated with four other great designers in the Global Game Jam 2013. We made an iPad game called Tug of Gore in less than 48 hours. The goal is to pull and stretch Gore against 3 other players.

Below you find the trailer. Video sound was done in 2 minutes…we were running out of time and the only way to finish the trailer in time was to take a microphone and press record!
